Get to know more about me
I’m Zair R. Kelley Ortiz, a Lead Technical Writer with over seven years of experience in technical writing, developer advocacy, and cross-functional product collaboration. Based in San Diego, CA, I specialize in crafting technical documentation that not only supports product adoption but also empowers developers and integrators with clear, actionable resources. My expertise spans API documentation, SDKs, AI-driven content strategies, machine learning workflows, and interactive developer education—always with a focus on making complex technical concepts accessible to diverse audiences.
My foundation is in both business and technology. I graduated on the Dean’s List with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Engineering Graphics and Design, and I’ve expanded my skills through certifications in Data Science for Business, Machine Learning using Python and Jupyter Notebooks, and No-code AI & Machine Learning from MIT Professional Education. My background also includes deep exposure to IoT, AI, data analytics, docs-as-code, and docs-as-ecosystem methodologies.
Before becoming a Lead Technical Writer, I built my career through a mix of technical, analytical, and leadership roles—managing teams, teaching advanced mathematics, running a business unit, leading credit risk analysis, and spearheading technology adoption initiatives. Along the way, I became skilled in tools like GitBook, GitHub, VS Code, Postman, HotJar, Mixpanel, Google Analytics, IBM Watson, Microsoft Azure, AWS, and RStudio, as well as programming in HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and working with OpenAPI specifications.
In my current role at Beefree, I lead the documentation strategy for the Beefree SDK, acting as both Docs Engineer and Content Designer. I maintain all OpenAPI spec files, create interactive API testing environments, contribute sample code to our GitHub (including React apps and API integrations), and work closely with developers throughout the Shape Up Cycle. I participate in live technical webinars where I share code and workflows in real time. I integrate analytics into the docs workflow for data-driven improvements, and conduct competitive research. These efforts actively contribute to increased adoption and contributed to revenue growth.
My developer-first mindset is backed by hands-on contributions—publishing reusable Markdown documentation, building integrations, and ensuring that every technical detail is tested and validated. I believe documentation isn’t just reference material—it’s an integral part of the product experience. Without it, the product is incomplete.
I bridge gaps between product teams, engineers, and end users. I am also fluent in both English and Spanish. My mission is to ensure that technology—and the knowledge to use it—is truly accessible to everyone.
